I saved $600 on car insurance (the legal way)
No switching carriers. No lying. Just one AI audit.

My car insurance renewal notice came in the mail.
I opened it, scanned the number, and something felt off. $1,847 for the year. That seemed... high?
But here's the thing about car insurance: you kind of just accept whatever they tell you. They're the experts. They have the algorithms. Who am I to question it?
Except this time, I didn't just accept it.
I pulled up the full policy PDF on my laptop, uploaded it to ChatGPT, and typed:
"Review this car insurance policy for any errors, anomalies, or opportunities to save money. Flag anything that doesn't make sense."
Two minutes later, ChatGPT came back with this:
"Issue found: Vehicle mileage listed as 15,000 miles/year. However, the 'Verified Mileage Discount' referenced in your coverage options is not applied to your premium. This discount typically saves 8-12% for low-mileage drivers. Recommend verifying actual mileage and ensuring discount is active."
I stared at my screen.
My car has 8,200 miles per year. Not 15,000. And there's a discount I qualify for that... just isn't applied?
I immediately texted my wife: "I think our insurance company has been overcharging us."
Called them that afternoon. The agent sounded surprised (sure), pulled up my account, confirmed my actual mileage, applied the discount.
New annual rate: $1,247.
That's $600 back in my pocket. For something that took two minutes to find.
And here's the part that makes me angry: I'd probably been overpaying for two years. That's $1,200 I'll never get back.
All because I trusted they had it right. And they were banking on me never checking.
The best way to protect your assets
Insurance isn’t just another bill. It’s a key part of protecting everything you’ve worked hard to build. From your home to your vehicles, your coverage should reflect your current lifestyle and financial goals - not last year’s premiums.

The Exact Prompt (And How To Make It Work For You)
Here's what I uploaded and asked:
Step 1: Download your car insurance policy as a PDF (usually available in your online account or attached to your renewal email)
Step 2: Upload it to ChatGPT and use this prompt:
"Review this car insurance policy for any errors, anomalies, or opportunities to save money. Look for: incorrect vehicle information, missing discounts I qualify for, duplicate coverage, outdated rates, or anything that doesn't align with standard pricing. Flag anything suspicious or worth questioning."
What AI can catch that you'd probably miss:
Incorrect vehicle information
Wrong mileage (like mine - cost me $600/year)
Wrong garaging address (city vs. suburban rates are different)
Outdated vehicle value (if your car depreciated, your comprehensive coverage cost should too)
Missing discounts
Low mileage discount (not applied even though you qualify)
Multi-policy discount (have home + auto but only getting partial discount?)
Good driver discount (clean record but discount missing)
Paid-in-full discount (pay annually vs. monthly but not getting the discount)
Anti-theft device discount (your car has it, policy doesn't reflect it)
Duplicate or unnecessary coverage
Rental car coverage when your credit card already covers it
Roadside assistance when you have AAA
Comprehensive coverage on a 15-year-old car worth $3,000
Rate anomalies
Premium increased but no claims/tickets to justify it
Your rate is significantly higher than state average for your profile
Loyalty penalty (been with them 5+ years and paying more than new customers)
My case specifically: Wrong mileage + missing verified mileage discount. Two errors that compounded into $600/year in overcharges.
What Happened When I Called
I expected pushback. Maybe some "well, actually..." explanation about why the mileage was listed that way.
Instead:
Me: "My policy shows 15,000 miles per year, but my actual mileage is 8,200. And I don't see the verified mileage discount applied."
Agent: "Oh! Let me pull that up... yes, I see that. Let me update your mileage and apply that discount. Your new annual premium will be $1,247."
Me: "So I've been overpaying?"
Agent: "It looks like this has been the rate for about two years. Unfortunately we can't issue retroactive refunds, but your renewal will reflect the corrected amount."
That's it. No apology. No "we'll make this right." Just "unfortunately we can't refund what you've already paid."
Translation: They were happy to keep overcharging me until I noticed.
This is why the AI audit matters. Insurance companies aren't going to proactively tell you you're overpaying. They're banking on you auto-renewing without questions.
Beyond Car Insurance: What Else to Audit
Once I saw how well this worked, I started uploading everything:
Home/Renters Insurance Same prompt. Found I was paying for $500 deductible when I'd be fine with $1,000. Saved $180/year.
Cell Phone Bill Found I was paying for unlimited data but averaging 4GB/month. Saved $25/month.
Subscription Services Asked AI to review my credit card statements for recurring charges. Found three subscriptions I forgot I had. Saved $47/month.
The pattern: Companies make money when you don't pay attention. AI pays attention for you.
